MCAP Testing
MCAP Testing
The Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) assessments of Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS) will build a pathway to college and career readiness by the end of high school, mark students’ progress toward this goal from grade 3 through high school, and provide teachers with timely information to inform instruction and provide student support.
This site
hosts all of the tools necessary to prepare for and administer MCAP assessments.
Message from Mr. Carney from the February 2024 Cougar Connect
It is time for us to start preparing in earnest for our MCAP state assessments. These are very important assessments obviously for us as a school, but even more so for your child. Please stress to your child that they should do the best they can, answer all questions especially the short answer questions, and stay focused for the entirety of the exam. These exams have significant ramifications for your child's course selections in the future as well as what interventions (if any) your child will have to receive. Most importantly, we know that the majority of our CMS students are doing grade level work at a high level as judged by the 60% of Cougars on Honor Roll each quarter. They need to demonstrate they are at grade level by scoring proficient on MCAP in all areas. It is imperative that you, our families, stress the importance of being able to demonstrate mastery of grade level content for their future educational choices. In addition, if your child wants to attend college, everyone of these exams from MCAP to MAP all lead to the SAT and ACT exams in high school. The better they are able to navigate standardized tests, particularly these styles of questions, the better they will do on these highly important exams for college admissions. The higher level classes they take now in middle school will prepare them for higher levels of college readiness and perhaps prevent them from taking remedial classes in college and costing them more in the long run. It all starts here and doing well on MCAP sets them up for that very important future success.
